Lobby Used Book Sale
What is the “Lobby Used Book Sale”?
Shelves in the lobby area (on the left as you enter the Library) contain donated used books for the on-going Friends of the Library book sale. Signs with the prices are on the top shelf; patrons pay at the Circulation desk.
If you sign up for a month to take care of the Lobby Used Book Sale, you will need to come once a week to put books on the shelves. During the last week of your month, you will remove books with a specific color dot on the spine and shelve those in the Used Book area in Technical Service. (The purpose of the colored dots is to remove books that have been on the Lobby Book Sale shelves for more than a couple of months.) Your responsibility will take 10-20 minutes each time you come.
Complete instructions and the books you put out for the sale are located in the Technical Services area. Please ask another Friends member for detailed directions.
Kendall County Record Obituaries
The Genealogy services of the Library include a database of obituaries listed in the Kendall County Record. This database is able to be searched by last name, date of birth, date of death, etc. The Kendall County Record does not maintain or provide a database.
Volunteers are needed to record this information on a prepared form using information from the Kendall County Record. When you sign up for a month to do this, you will record the obituary information, a form for each week. At the end of the month, Judy Somerlot will collect those pages and enter the data into a spreadsheet. Madison Ward (tech services) then publishes that data on a yearly basis for the library.
